Tu anima mea es, mea aeterna amata,
Luceat lux tua
Lux tua via mea, virtus mea, anima mea,
Tu mihi es omnia,
Ex cineribus iterum resurgam
Tu anima mea es, mea aeterna amata,
Luceat lux tua
You are my soul, my eternal beloved,
Let your light shine
Your light is my way, my strength, my soul,
You are my everything
From the ashes I shall rise again
You are my soul, my eternal beloved,
Let your light shine
Let your light shine
Bringing voice and recorders together in a blending of styles Luceat Lux Tua is based around the idea of the strength we can gain from our loved ones in our times of need through their inner light. Despite this we don’t end with a fanfare, rather with a calm, almost weary, plea. We can rise again but it is not easy.
The bass recorder section at the start can be fully or partially improvised if the player prefers, or they can use the printed music. The recorder players should feel free to add any additional ornamentation they feel is appropriate throughout their sections. Depending on the size of the choir and the venue the recorder players may need to be amplified. While envisioned as just two players more than one player could be used on each instrument if that is an easier alternative to amplification for amateur groups, with the exception of the solo bass section at the start which needs to remain as a solo player to capture the feeling of improvised expression.
Purchase options include a copy with separate recorder parts, and a copy without the separate recorder parts so groups do not end up with unnecessary spare parts.
Instrumentation: SATB Choir with Treble and Bass Recorders, Piano reduction for rehearsal
